It's been a long day when it comes to the job today.  I sat at the screen and did nothing for 8 hours.  Okay, I had three jobs, but no matter how you slice it, that's pretty pitiful considering I work for one of the largest Healthcare chains in the southeast.  It wasn't any better for the rest of the team with approximately 6-7 other transcriptionists on at the same time I was.  The work wasn't there!  We had perhaps 7 jobs that came through the VR unit during my shift and not much more than that to come through the dictation unit.  I don't know how much longer this will go on - no one wants to pay a worker to sit around and wait, hoping there might be some work eventually to be done.  It's scary...

But on the good side, autumn has started off beautifully!  The temps have dropped and the skies are this clear beautiful blue.  Today was just glorious.  Best of all, it's the type of weather for going out on a mill crawl and I can't wait!  So for the next couple of weekends, I'll be contacting various properties for permission to walk the area and photograph so I'll be ready to take a mill weekend as soon as Ted clears off a few of his obligations.  Finally!  New mills for the website!

Class 2 3

1 min read
I've only got one more class left in the Beginner's Digital Photography and that will be this coming Tuesday.  Still enjoying it though I have come to the conclusion that I won't be taking the advanced class.  I've learned a lot about the camera thank to Melanie, but I'm' not the really artistic type of photographer and I prefer pictures of architecture to people.  I'm trying not do the "point and shoot" work, looking more at composition and what I want the picture to show what I'm seeing about a building, but it can be a bit difficult to work with when you're trying to document a mill before it's lost forever.

But I am learning.  I'd like to think I'm getting better with figuring out lighting, what's the difference between portrait and landscape, and how the F-stop works and why.  Melanie's very good with that and explains it well.  I have to admit, she's the first instructor that's made me interested in reading the camera's manual - and actually understand what it's saying!

Great Class

The class was wonderful!  Melonie's a much different type of teacher than the one I had last year and started in right away with camera operations, explained about the Fstop, depth of field and so on, including how to trick the camera when it comes to working with light.  She's fun, very personable and has loads of experience to share with us, including telling us about her mistakes to help keep us from experiencing the same.  I pretty much babbled to Ted about it all night after I picked him up from the theater.  Only downer was the rain.  I'll be taking the camera to the theater on Friday to do head shots of the show he's directing (Plaza Suite) and some of the rehearsal itself since the entire crew will be there.  Ted's already agreed that we'll take the camera out for a couple of hours during the Labor Day weekend to work with it and let me try some of the new ideas.  I don't know if I'll try for the advanced classes that follow this one as it tends to be more for those with the bigger DSLR cameras, but if I can learn how to use my guy beyond the "auto" setting on it, I'll be a happy camper.  Now I've bored you with my camera adventures, just like I did with Ted

Another Mill

The final group of pictures for my textile mill web pages has been finished and uploaded.  This one is for the Lockmore Mill in York, SC.  She was in the process of being renovated, but caught fire the weekend before I could get out there to photograph her.  You can check out the page at:

Just click on Lockmore's water tower and that will take you to the new page.  Hope you enjoy!

I'm on a roll!

I'm amazed at myself!  I managed to post not one, but TWO mills in less than a week.  I'm stunned and speechless over that - I always tend to be lazy about somethings, but this one moved quickly.

The new mill is the Courtyard at Highland Park, one of the mills in the Rock Hill, SC area.

I've got one more set of mill photographs in my files and then I'm going to have to go out and do some mill crawls again.  I can't wait!!
